Medley's Approach
Sustainability Initiatives
What We Can Do for Sustainable Healthcare
Guided by our mission to shape the future of healthcare, Medley is committed to advancing sustainable healthcare. Today, however, healthcare systems face a wide range of structural challenges. Governments, industry organizations, service providers, and researchers are each working to address these issues from their respective positions.
In Japan, social security expenditures continue to rise year after year and are projected to reach ¥140.7 trillion in FY2025, with further increases expected as the population continues to age. Under the current framework, sustaining the system over the long term is becoming increasingly difficult, prompting active discussion around the transition to a more sustainable social security model.
At the same time, healthcare providers on the ground are confronting serious workforce shortages. Demographic shifts have led to declining enrollment at training institutions, increasing the burden on existing healthcare professionals and resulting in long working hours. These conditions underscore the urgent need to improve efficiency and productivity through the effective use of technology.
Against this backdrop, Medley seeks to contribute in ways uniquely suited to a company with deep expertise in building internet-based services. Beyond developing and delivering technology-driven products, we work closely with local communities and public institutions, support workforce development and retention, and help build healthcare delivery systems that remain resilient in times of emergency. Through these efforts, we aim to contribute to the realization of a sustainable healthcare system.
1. Initiatives Through Our Products
Since our founding in 2009, Medley has developed and provided technology-driven products that meet the needs of healthcare providers, professionals, patients, and individuals—working to realize sustainable, trusted healthcare.

Tackling global healthcare challenges
In addition to providing products, Medley places strong emphasis on contributing to society. We actively collaborate with local communities and government bodies, support workforce development initiatives, and help establish healthcare delivery systems capable of functioning during emergencies such as infectious disease outbreaks and natural disasters.
2. Collaboration with Local Communities and Government
Medley aims to help address disparities in healthcare access arising from regional differences, including shortages of healthcare professionals and the decline of medical institutions in certain areas. To this end, we collaborate with municipalities and private-sector partners to build technology-enabled solutions such as telemedicine. We also support the development of regional healthcare networks that enable information sharing among medical institutions, government bodies, and pharmacies—helping create systems that support improved healthcare experiences.
-
Demonstration project using post offices in rural areas
In Akiota Town, Hiroshima Prefecture, Medley supported a pilot project that utilized post offices as community hubs to provide online medical consultations and medication guidance through CLINICS and MEDIXS.
-
Healthcare access demonstration project for remote islands
In Satsuma-sendai City, Kagoshima Prefecture, Medley supported the operation of medical MaaS services on Koshikijima Island by leveraging the regional healthcare network "Kago-Net," with the goal of improving healthcare access.
3. Workforce Development and Retention Initiatives
Medley is committed to supporting the recruitment and development of healthcare professionals who sustain frontline medical care. Recognizing that some students are forced to abandon higher education due to financial constraints, we work to create environments that enable continued learning, including through scholarship programs. We are also advancing initiatives to support sustainable healthcare systems not only in Japan, but internationally as well.
-
GUPPY Scholarship
A non-repayable scholarship program for students aspiring to become dental hygienists, designed to reduce financial barriers to education and increase the number of healthcare professionals.
-
Jobley Nonprofit Support Program
Through Jobley, Medley provides free recruitment support to nonprofit clinics in the United States that offer dental care to low-income communities, helping secure healthcare professionals who support local medical services.
4. Building Healthcare Systems for Emergencies
In an increasingly uncertain environment shaped by infectious disease outbreaks and natural disasters, Medley works to build healthcare systems that can continue operating during emergencies. Following the Great East Japan Earthquake in 2011 and during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, we provided support through the use of telemedicine. Going forward, we will continue collaborating with stakeholders to maintain and strengthen stable healthcare delivery systems during times of crisis.
-
Healthcare support in disaster-affected areas
When large-scale disasters occur, maintaining regional healthcare services becomes difficult. Medley supported the continuity of medical care in affected areas through the use of online medical consultations.
-
Initiatives in response to COVID-19
Medley implemented a range of initiatives through its services to address societal challenges that emerged during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Medley's Material Issues
The initiatives described above are guided by Medley's material issues—key priorities identified in response to stakeholder expectations and requests. Each material issue is directly linked to our mission to shape the future of healthcare. By addressing these priorities, we aim to achieve both sustained contributions to society and the enhancement of long-term corporate value.
Process for Identifying Material Issues
Step 1: Identifying candidate material issues
We identified social issues highly relevant to Medley's business activities and corporate culture by referencing international frameworks such as SASB, the GRI Standards, and the SDGs, while also incorporating stakeholder perspectives.
Step 2: Evaluation from company and stakeholder perspectives
The identified issues were evaluated from both internal and external viewpoints, including insights from investors, ESG rating agencies, and media coverage.
Step 3: Final determination by Medley
Through discussions at the Board of Directors and internal forums, Medley identified priority material issues to address in alignment with its management strategy.
